St. David’s Church, Broom Leys
The Lady Chapel
St. David’s Church
St. David’s Church is a building of unique, modern design built in 1965 to replace a wooden building that remains on the site and is used as a hall.
The fabric is in good order and good decorative order having recently undergone a quinquennial inspection.
The main area has seating in wooden pews for about 200 people. The choir stalls are behind the pews near the electric organ.
A sound system was installed some 15 years ago.
To commemorate the Millennium modern stained glass windows were installed in 2000, which greatly enhance the building. (See below)
A new heating system was installed 10 years ago and a year later the roof was replaced.
The entrance porch has a multi functional use, varied items are for sale, notice boards are used to display information on a variety of topics and refreshments are served after Evening and special services.
The Lady Chapel seats 20 people on comfortable chairs and provides a flexible but peaceful space for worship, meetings, bible study, prayer groups and individual reflection and prayer.
Two vestries are situated at the rear of the building. The choir vestry doubles as a small meeting room and the vicar’s vestry is used as the church office housing the photocopier, computer and storage for resources. Both are independently heated. Two toilets are accessible from the rear corridor.
The church buildings are situated in pleasant grounds with lawns and shrubs with parking for several cars.
The Garden of Remembrance is behind the church and provides a peaceful, pleasant area for quiet contemplation.
St. David’s Church Halls
The church halls are on the same site as the church.
The new large hall was built in 1992 and comprises a large multifunctional hall, seating 120 people, with a stage, under-stage storage area, a lounge, cloakrooms and storage facilities.
It is attached to the original wooden church which is now a small hall seating 80 people. This was recently redecorated and refurbished, and has an independent heating system.
At the rear of the building are a very well equipped kitchen and storerooms and toilets, including a disabled toilet with baby changing facilities. There is also a good sized meeting room in good decorative order which is well furnished and equipped.
The halls are in constant use. St David’s playgroup meets every weekday morning during term time and various groups meet regularly, including Men’s Fellowship, Ladies’ Evening Fellowship, painting Club, Badminton Club, Youth Groups and the Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade. The halls are used regularly for social events for the church family. Community use includes the local hospital’s fund raising activities, bookings from other charities and the local council.
Other regular lettings are many and varied and include classes for karate, pilates and zumba, literacy, dance classes and young children’s activities. Revenue is also received from outside bookings for children’s parties, wedding receptions, and birthday and anniversary parties.
A small committee of the PCC manages the halls with paid cleaners. The halls are financially self supporting and contribute significantly to the overall income of the church..
If you would like to hire the church halls, either together or individually, please contact the Hall Lettings secretary.
