Social Action

Coalville Foodbank has now been in operation for almost one year and has seen a hand-out of over 770 food parcels to those individuals and families in crisis.  The main storage and distribution centre is at the New Life Church ( Margaret Street) and Greenhill Community Church also distributes parcels.  St. David’s is involved at supermarket collections, sorting and aiding with distribution.  We also provide food for GCC to hand out to those in need who do not meet the food-bank criteria.  I would like to thank all those who generously donate food for this purpose.

Members from St David’s also help at the Friday lunchtime drop-in at Kingsgate ( GCC ) where a free meal and advice is given to an average of 16 people per week.

For the past three and a half years five members of St David’s have run the Coalville branch of Clockwise Credit Union, head office Leicester, firstly from Greenhill Community Office and latterly from Marlborough Square Methodist Church to combat loan sharks and money lenders. This has had limited success.  Our involvement has now ceased as head office is changing the way branches operate.  In future it will be located in Coalville Library to coincide with the Job Club in the hope that it will attract more new members.
