SEPTEMBER 5th 2021
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
What an exciting privilege it is for my family and I to have officially started our
ministry at St. David’s. We want to extend a huge thank-you to everyone who put in
such a big effort to make the induction service such a welcoming event that really
brought glory to God.
The author of Ecclesiastes (most probably wise king Solomon) famously said that to
everything there is a season. Life on earth is a constant series of changes, some big,
some small. Even, positive changes can be a bit daunting!
Some changes are thrust upon us, such as the pandemic and we are left reeling and
scrambling to adapt. But other changes, we embrace and even pray for with great
joy, think of the birth of a baby or redecorating a home.
As a church family, we are now embracing another big change as Kat and I begin our
gospel partnership with St. David’s. A special and exciting time, but with fresh
leadership, the Holy Spirit often brings fresh transformation. Positive new things are
often exciting, but they can also be a little bit scary too, because when God leads us
to a new season, He often asks us to let go of things from the past.
Perhaps, we will retain many familiar aspects of mission and ministry, we will
certainly try new things too and we will let go of others. Our God and the gospel He
commands us to share are eternal and changeless, but the ways in which we serve
Him and reach out must be flexible and adaptive to the time and season in which we
find ourselves.
There are all sorts of training, courses, strategies and ideas, thought up by the
greatest minds of the contemporary church to help us be on the cutting edge of
reaching out to our community. However what is most important is allowing the Holy
Spirit to flow through us as a family of believers, bringing a fresh vision for how God
wishes to use us for His glory.
I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait to follow the Lord’s lead in this thrilling
new chapter of St. David’s story. Let’s commit to praying reverently and with fervour
for the Spirit of God to come sweeping through us anew!
In the love of Christ,
Rev’d Brett
