Living Stones Mission Partnership

Steering Group Meeting 14 July 2014

Attendance:  Carol Baker (Convenor), Alan Burgess, Andy Rhoades, Martin Mawby, Eileen Baldwin (Treasurer), Sandie Newton (Secretary).

The following is a brief summary of matters discussed at the first meeting of the Living Stones Mission Partnership following its official launch in June 2014:

The Group reminded itself of the contents of the Mission Partnership agreement.  The agreement commits the churches to work in 4 areas of church life:

There was a comprehensive exchange of information about what work is currently being undertaken within the churches in the 4 areas.

The “Open the Book” schools’ initiative is working particularly well and is being used in 5 primary schools.  We agreed to share resources and ideas in this area.

The “Rock Solid” after school club at Castle Rock High school, a joint venture between St. David’s and Heartland Youth for Christ may be an area where the churches might collaborate.

There are many existing activities for young people within the churches.  It was agreed that it would be good for our youth leaders to get together to share ideas.  This to be arranged.

Andy sought advice and ideas in respect of a proposal to establish a parent and toddler group at St. David’s.

St. David’s is looking to obtain funding for a children and young families worker. It was agreed that this role might work across the Mission Partnership.

Reverend Rhona Passey’s afternoon “Café Church” is working well across the Mission Partnership. A Diocese produced “Omega” course (Alpha type course for older people) is to take place.  A budget of £150 is available to Rhona for her work with older people.

Christmas and Easter events may present opportunities to work together.  A number of suggestions are to be considered.  Christmas and Easter Mission partnership events to be promoted across the Mission Partnership.

The Mission Partnership will have a grant of £3,000 from the Diocese.

Date of next meeting – 7pm 15th October at St. David’s.
